While the worldwide market for optical fiber remained near flat in 2003, running at about 55 million fiber km, the impact of pro-broadband US policy initiatives and tax breaks to promote investment in fiber to the home (FTTH) could combine to put sales back on a growth trajectory going forward. That was the headline take from senior executives of Corning at the US fiber maker's annual OFC briefing held on Tuesday at the LA Convention Center.

Downhill Battle went live last Wednesday with a site devoted to the protest, Greytuesday.org. In 12 hours it had more than 40 sites signed on to participate. Within two days, Greytuesday.org reached the top ranking on Blogdex and Popdex, Web sites that track which sites are being linked to from blogs.
